We recorded a new album!

In 1834, Frederic Chopin wrote one of his most famous works, “Fantasie” Impromptu. He never published it for unknown reasons, but from his letters we have gathered that he thought the piece was too similar to some parts of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Well, unlike Chopin, we are quite proud of our cover songs, and we wish he had also been proud of his work, because it turns out that even after 180 years, it is one of the most celebrated pieces in the piano repertoire.

Our impromptu album consists of 11 songs that had been stuck in our heads ever since they were released. We came together in a very lovely basement (location redacted), set up a make-shift studio with microphones hanging from the ceiling, and live-recorded the songs. After two days and 12 hours, we had it all recorded. It took about a month and a half to mix and master the album, but here we are - with a complete record!

We had lots of decisions to make, including creating a repertoire that we will enjoy playing and you will enjoy listening to. Some of the song arrangements we already had (courtesy of our chief friend - Mugu Radu). The rest had yet to be arranged. Two days and two sleepless nights – with utmost attention to detail – this is how Nastasja approached arranging the missing songs. Once the MuseScore shenanigans were over, we went into the studio (ahem, basement) holding donuts and jugs of coffee, and got to work. From Adele to Taylor Swift, from Billie Eilish to Vulfpeck, we chose to cover some of our most favorite songs.

By no means was this an easy task. To record a half-decent string quartet album in a professional studio is already quite challenging, let alone attempt this in a basement. There were also certain internal conflicts, such as who gets to sit on the core exercise ball due to the lack of chairs, or where to get pizzas for lunch — Alfredo’s Pizza or Pizza by Alfredo?

All jokes aside, we are very proud of this record. We have been getting a ton of requests for more recordings and we promise to keep them coming. We don’t want to jump the gun, but we are already thinking about the next project. If you would like us to keep you posted, please sign up to our newsletter below and we will send you occasional (very, very occasional) emails updating you on our new releases.

If you are reading this on any day after September 21st 2023, then there is at least one single out on every streaming platform for your enjoyment. We chose the 2023 Summer hits Oh My God and Flowers to be the singles from the album. On October 13th, you will be able to hear the whole album.

We are aware that many of you (and some of us) really prefer to own physical copies of music. We hope to get enough interest in the album to be able to replicate CDs and maybe print LPs too. If you are interested, please let us know by leaving a comment, emailing us, or just listening to the album. :)
